HOW SATAN CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US!
Satan has no concern whatsoever for our welfare and is actually out to hurt each one and condemn our souls. Satan is cunning, crafty, subtle, deceitful, and all of his pills are sugar-coated. He is very shrewd in his tactics and so polished in his approach but has never been able to keep a single promise, yet people continue to be deceived daily.
The Bible says, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices” (II Cor. 2:10-11). Satan is trying to take advantage of us; and if he ever gets the advantage, it will be because we give it to him.
The Apostle Paul was ever mindful of Satan’s intentions, and over and over he warns us to be on our guard against him. “Neither give place to the devil” (Eph. 4:27). This grave warning suggests to us that Satan can have a place in our lives and suggests that he wants that place. It also suggests that Satan can’t have that place unless we give it to him.
We don’t have to give Satan that place, but we will unless we are mindful of his tactics. It is entirely up to us as to whether or not Satan fulfills his purpose in overtaking us. Jesus said, “No man can enter into a strong man’s house and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man: and then he will spoil his house” (Mark 3:27). This is true with Satan. Before he can enter your heart and spoil your goods, he must first bind you. He does this by slipping into your life; and then after he has gotten a foothold, he will take advantage of you.
How does Satan get an advantage over us? The Lord gives us the answer: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you” (John 4:7). When James told us to “resist” the Devil, he used the Greek word, Antistemi, which means to set against, stand up against, oppose, resist. It is clear that we are capable of standing against the Devil and are not helpless before him. As free, moral agents, made in the image of God, we have the capacity to choose to do right and refuse to do evil (Joshua 24:15).
There must be a constant resistance of the Devil. When he tempted Christ it was said, “And when the Devil had ended all the temptations, he departed from him for a season” (Luke 4:13). The Devil departs from us for only a season, but we can be assured that he will soon return. For that reason, we must constantly watch and be on guard against him!
The primary reason for Satan’s taking advantage of us is our ignorance of his devices. Ignorance is the arch enemy of Christianity. If Satan can keep us in ignorance, he can keep us away from God. Knowledge is referred to as the key; and with this key, we can unlock the door in coming to God (Luke 11:52). Satan realizes this and, therefore, seeks to keep us in ignorance.
My friends, only through a study of God’s word can we show ourselves approved unto Him (II Timothy 2:15). God, today, no longer will excuse ignorance of His word! (Acts 17:30) Our society doesn’t realize that some day vengeance will be meted out to them who know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord! (II Thess. 1:8)
Remember, it is through ignorance that Satan takes advantage of us!
