In 1996 a grain ship, “Bright Field,” was heading down the Mississippi River near New Orleans, when it lost control, veered toward the shore and crashed into a riverside shopping mall. The impact demolished parts of the wharf and injured 116 people. According to the Coast Guard investigation, the ship’s owner and crew had failed to repair long-standing engine problems. This is a clear example of not doing what you should do and receiving the consequences of bad decisions.

            The Devil deceived Eve into thinking that there would be no consequences for eating the forbidden fruit (Gen. 3:1-7). God said, “But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, ye shall not eat of it lest ye die” (v.3) The Devil said, “Ye shall not surely die.” (v.4) Eve dilly-dallied with the temptation and contemplated the possibilities that the Devil had suggested and threw away all restrain and ate the fruit!  Why?  The Devil deceived her into thinking that there would be no consequences for sin.

            The Devil continues to lie to us today and tells our society that a little sin won’t hurt, a little indulgence is not a problem, a little transgression will never hurt anybody! The Devil tells us that we are only human and go ahead and enjoy sin. The Bible says, “The way of the transgressor is hard.” ( Prov. 13:15)

            Our society believes that it can live in disobedience to God’s will by practicing homosexuality and never suffer the consequences. The scriptures teach that there will be consequences for our actions. “Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth unto his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth unto the spirit shall of the spirit reap eternal life.” (Gal. 6:7-8) This basic principle applies to the physical world and spiritual realm as well. The word, “mocked” is a Greek word (mukterizete:) which means to turn one’s nose up at God. The point is that if a person sows to the flesh (homosexuality and sinful living) and turns up his nose at God, he shall go the way of all flesh, -- die and face the judgment of God where there will be consequences. (reap destruction – Gal. 6:8)

The scriptures emphasize the consequences of sin in other verses. Ezekiel said, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ez. 18:4) Paul said, “The wages of sin is death.” (Rom. 6:23)  Over and over, again and again, the Bible under all circumstances, emphasizes that we reap what we sow and that sin is always followed by consequences.

            There is rebellion in the hearts and in the behavior of many people in our society today. In view of the fact that sin will always have consequences, what can we predict for the future? According to the basic law of sowing and reaping, the answer can best be given in the words of the prophet Hosea, “They sow the wind and they shall reap the whirlwind.” (Hos. 8:7) There is one time of sowing (while alive), and there will be two times of reaping. We reap in this life and also reap beyond this life in the hereafter. Sin brings forth its consequences both here and hereafter.

            People may do things without realizing the consequences of their actions, but one day there is going to be an accounting! (Rev. 21:8)                                                                                                                                                                                           



I highly recommend that Christians get a copy of THINK Magazine, June 2016 issue, and read the articles about sexual identity and how it will affect the church and what our response should be.

            While it may not be politically correct to link psychological (mental) disorders with the transgender population, researchers clearly see the evidence that a link exists. Many medical professionals are quick to reach a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and recommend cross-gender hormone therapy and reassignment surgery without investigating further and treating the co-existing issues.

            It is a fact that gender cannot be changed behaviorally. The Bible says, “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are an abomination unto the Lord they God” (Deut. 22:5). God’s condemnation throughout the Bible is pointed directly at those of either sex who try to break down the sexual differences which exist between a man and a woman!

            The Bible has simple answers concerning the roles of men and women. They were created in separate and distinct fashions. This was true of the anatomy, psychology, and physical appearances. The main reason for creating two sexes was for the purpose of procreation (Gen. 1:28).

            Research studies from 2009 and 2013, looking for a “transgender gene,” showed not a smidgeon of abnormality in the genetic makeup that causes someone to be transgender. No alterations in the main sex-determining genes in male-to-female transsexual individuals were found, strongly suggesting that male-born transgender persons are normal males biologically!

            Many homosexuals say it is because of a “gay gene” that they were born with. They raise the question, will God really punish anyone who is merely responding to his/her genetic makeup? The reality is that science has not produced a study yet to show that there is a gay gene. The truth of the matter is that homosexuality is still unnatural (queer) and dishonors God! (Lev. 20:13; Gen. 18:20).

            The truth is that transgender individuals need psychotherapy, not access to cross-sex restrooms, showers, and dressing areas. Blaming society for the ills of transgender persons will not improve their diagnosis and treatments. The cause of this condition can’t be verified through lab results, a brain scan, or review of the DNA makeup.

            Researchers clearly see a link exists between transgenders and psychological (mental) disorders! A 2015 study of 118 individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria found that 29.6% were also found to have dissociative disorders and a high prevalence of lifetime major depressive episodes (45.8%), suicide attempts (21.2%), and childhood trauma (45.8%).

            The reckless disregard for the mental disorders of transgender individuals in favor of enforcing preferred pronouns in our society is complete madness! It is time to show compassion by simply telling the truth and stop pretending that they are born this way. True compassion from the Biblical perspective is acknowledging that transgenders have a mental disorder and providing effective, sound treatment.

            The bottom line is the gender that we are born with cannot be changed forever! (Matt. 19:4)
